Hi! My name is Kerry and I am a tither. That's right. I tithe. And I love talking about it.
In my process of creating a healthy relationship with money, this was one of the big sticking points for me. I didn't like the idea of tithing and I was NOT going to do it.
But it kept haunting me. Many people I admired had active tithing practices. I kept reading about it, hearing about it. The practice goes by different names in different spiritual traditions but is basically the same.
One day I encountered an explanation that finally pushed me over the edge. (Edwene Gaines, "The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity," who I will paraphrase.) A tithe is ten percent of whatever money you receive given to the person or place that provides you with spiritual food. Oh.
This means that the tithe goes to wherever I have received spiritual inspiration and guidance. It didn't have to be a religion (I don't belong to one) a religious leader (I don't follow one in particular) or a church (I don't go to church). But spiritual inspiration? Oh. Now it made sense to me. And it seemed to be the missing link in my financial puzzle. Damn. (Oops, I meant to say; oh goody!)
I began reluctantly. It was scary. It challenged my fearful mind because the numbers just didn't add up. (It felt extremely counterintuitive.) And it required a huge leap of faith. And, long story short, that is what tithing has given me. Faith. In money. Abundance. Prosperity. And nothing else had provided that faith before I committed to tithing. It changed my relationship with money in a very profound way. For that reason I tithe.
